PMT (Photomultiplier Tube)

In the photosensor field, Hamamatsu Photonics photomultiplier tubes (or PMT) are known to have particularly high sensitivity. Hamamatsu PMT also have dozens of other advantages such as high-speed response time. Hamamatsu Photinics PMT are the subject of recent wide attention because of their use to detect neutrinos by Professor M. Koshiba who received the Nobel Prize in Physics in October 2002. Currently, PMT use is growing in a diverse range of fields where highly precise photometric capabilities are required. In the medical field, the PMT is used in clinical examination equipment as well as nuclear medical imaging and diagnostic systems. In fields involving chemical analysis, the PMT is used in various types of analytical instruments including spectrophotometers, environmental measurement equipment, etc. In academic research fields, the PMT is used in high energy physics experiments. In the measurement and industry field, the PMT is used, for example, in oil well logging and radiometry; and in the optical field is used for laser scanning confocal microscopy (LSCM). The PMT is also widely used in the semiconductor field for wafer surface inspection, plasma process monitoring, and thickness measurement.

PMT Modules

PMT Modules
People are said to get more than seventy percent of their information about our world from their eyes. However, there are vast sums of information and unknown possibilities hidden within light not visible to the naked eye. This kind of light includes ultraviolet, infrared, X-ray and ultra-low level light impossible for human eyes to detect.
Since its founding Hamamatsu Photonics has for some 60 years been investigating not only light seen by the human eye but also light that far exceeds this level. Hamamatsu Photonics has marketed dozens of products and committed itself to pioneering work in yet unexplored areas in many fields including industrial and academic research. The photomultiplier tube, one typical product from Hamamatsu Photonics is a photodetector offering exceedingly high sensitivity and high-speed response. Hamamatsu has also developed photomultiplier tube modules to make the photomultiplier tube with its amazing history of results, even easier to use in wider applications. This pamphlet serves as your introduction to the photomultiplier tube modules.

Micro PMT

Micro PMT

World's smallest and lightest photomultiplier tube.

A new device with a multialkali photocathode has now been added to the lineup to meet a wider range of needs. MicroPMT assemblies and modules help make sophisticated equipment more compact.

High Voltage Power Supply

High Voltage Power Supply

High voltage power supplies are products developed based on our years of experience as a PMT manufacturer and our leading edge technology. All models are designed to conform to stability requirements demanded of PMT operations. Various models are provided, ranging from on-board unit types to general-purpose bench-top types.

Photomultiplier Tubes And Assemblies For Scintillation Counting & High Energy Physics

Photomultiplier Tubes And Assemblies For Scintillation Counting & High Energy Physics
In radiation measurements, scintillation counters which are combinations of scintillators and photomultiplier tubes are used as most common and useful devices in detecting X-, alpha-, beta-, gamma-rays and other high energy charged particles. A scintillator emits flashes of light in response to input radiations and a photomultiplier tube coupled to a scintillator detects these scintillation lights in a precise way.
In high energy physics experiments, one of important apparatuses is a Cherenkov counter in which photomultiplier tubes detect Cherenkov radiations emitted by high energy charged particles passing through a dielectric material.
To detect radiations accurately, photomultiplier tubes may be required to have high detecting efficiency (QE & energy resolution), wide dynamic range (pulse linearity), good time resolution (T.T.S.), high stablility & reliability, and to be operatable in high magnetic field environment or at high temperature condition. In addition, a ruggedized construction is required according to circumstances. On the other hand, several kinds of position sensitive photomultiplier tubes have been developed and are used in these measurements.
This catalog provides a quick reference for Hamamatsu photomultiplier tubes, especially designed or selected for scintillation counters and Cherenkov radiation detectors, and includes most of types currently available ranging in size from 3/8" through 20" in diameter. It should be noted that this catalog is just a starting point in describing Hamamatsu product line since new types are continuously under-development.
